FOR OUR JOY/TO ELIMINATE SUFFERING: WHY JESUS DIED. PERIOD.

"Joy is the most infallible sign of the presence of God." Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace. 2 Corinthians 1:24 Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy. Matthew 13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." John 16:22 You have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. Luke 2:10 And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people."

"Sour godliness is the devil's religion."

-John Wesley

Mother Teresa
Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls. A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love.

Eleanor Roosevelt
Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.

"In Romans 7, St. Paul says, "The law is spiritual." What does that mean? If the law were physical, then it could be satisfied by works, but since it is spiritual, no one can satisfy it unless everything he does springs from the depths of the heart. But no one can give such a heart except the Spirit of God, who makes the person be like the law, so that he actually conceives a heartfelt longing for the law and henceforward does everything, not through fear or coercion, but from a free heart."

- Martin Luther

I asked God for all things, that I might enjoy life. God gave life, that I might enjoy all things.

Booker T. Washington: Quotes: Joy
I think I began learning long ago that those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.

He summarizes Augustine’s theology with phrases like the following: “Grace governs life by giving a supreme joy in the supremacy of God

We are formed and molded by our thoughts. Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts give joy when they speak or act. Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them. - Buddha

Love is the expression of one's values, the greatest reward you can earn for the moral qualities you have achieved in your character and person, the emotional price paid by one man for the joy he receives from the virtues of another. - Ayn Rand

There is no beautifier of complexion, or form, or behaviour, like the wish to scatter joy and not pain around us. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Excess of sorrow laughs, excess of joy weeps. - William Blake

George Bernard Shaw
The joy in life is to be used for a purpose. I want to be used up when I die.

Joy in God

This is my religion . . . joy and exaltation in my own existence . . . so go ahead and snarl . . . howl, you Calvinistic divines and all you who say I am no Christian. I say you are not Christian. - John Adams

The theologian who has no joy in his work is not a theologian at all. Sulky faces, morose thoughts and boring ways of speaking are intolerable in this science. - Karl Barth

Joy in the universe, and keen curiosity about it all-that has been my religion. - John Burroughs

One of the signs of God-realization is joy. There is absolutely no hesitancy in such a person, who is like an ocean in joyous waves. But deep beneath the surface, there is profound silence and peace. - Ramakrishna

When I am with God my fear is gone. In the great quiet of God, my troubles are as the pebbles on the road; my joys are like the everlasting hills. - Walter Rauschenbusch

It is a great dishonour to religion to imagine that it is an enemy to mirth and cheerfulness, and a severe exacter of pensive looks and solemn faces. - Walter Scott
