See article, below.
Comment #18:
Joe, perfect. You are perfectly consistent in your blaming of Pr. Obama of our failure, we-the-sheeple, we-the-cowardly-blaming-spectators. How can you be so smart on climate science and so stupid on politics? Obama can’t do our job for us. I don’t believe you are that stupid as to not know that. I must conclude therefore that you are willfully a coward. Just another Leftie auth-whore shilling, ‘oh, it’s not your responsibility progressives.’ ‘Oh, its’ not your fault Left citizens.’ ‘No, it is Obama’s fault!’
We broke our bargain on election night, the central fact of the last 3 years, nicely, aggressively, unfailingly obscured by the likes of you Romm, and armies of Leftie fantasy land pundits at your side. See, the presidency has no magical powers. If FDR hadn’t had a do-more-than-blame-citizenry, well, we’d have a Nazi flag over the White House. But you must know this. So, enjoy auth-whoring this valuable blog space.
It is the likes of you Joe, who could have, should have known better, that will lead this list of those going down in infamy.

Your comment is awaiting moderation. Well, well, well. Quite a day at Think Progress Green. First, Joe Romm reaches an all time low in cowardly, throwing red meat to the Left, blaming of Pr. Obama for the failures that belong squarely at the feet of we the sheeple, pretty much an unbroken string now for Joe of pandering to us. But Bill McKibben, wonder of wonders, for the first time ever (?) Bill McKibben is talking like a leader of some seriousness, some responsibility! Wow. What a day. Go Bill! Go-away Joe! (or at least, stick to the science).

Friends, among those few in history I admire is Dorothy Day, who along with Peter Maurin founded the Catholic Worker movement. Early on Dorothy decided that a regular newspaper would provide badly needed revenue, among other things. She poured her heart and soul into the first issue. When she showed it to Peter he said, in so many words, 'This is crap.' She was utterly devastated. 'Anything that has something for everyone is nothing of promise to anyone,' was the gist of his explanation. She was crushed. But she cared for the world's neediest more than she cared about her own hurt. So, she found the courage to see that Peter was right, redoubled her efforts, made the tough decisions on what the paper really stood for, avoided ever making the mistake again, and the paper continues today, as does the movement.
You articulate clearly on this site that you forgive yourselves for not having the answers on what you stand for. My generation has provided you the most hideous example, nothing you can follow, except to your doom. You are therefore to be forgiven. But for how long? The global neediest don't have long; 26,000 kids will die needlessly, tomorrow, and then the next day... because none of us have made it a priority to see what needs to be done, and DO IT.
You young folks, you don't have long if you are planning on making a home on Earth, because unless all the science is wrong (the bet of a sociopath) you have only months, MONTHS to make this upcoming election your generation's moon-shot moment to reduce carbon 80% by 2020. How? BY FINDING YOUR OWN SANITY. BY FINDING YOUR OWN RIGHTEOUS, UNVIOLENT RAGE, RAGE, AT WHAT MY GENERATION HAS DONE TO YOU, IS DOING TO YOU, EVERY DAY! By any and every objective, actuarial measure YOU, YOU, YOU, are paying 80% of the bill on my generation's every drop of oil, and every lump of coal burned today, and yesterday, and tomorrow. How? Well, 1. Most of the ACTUAL, tho carefully ‘hidden,’ price of fossil fuels is in the wreckage cost of Earth that you will be forced to pay for, fortifying our dozen or so sea level cities against climate change's rising of sea levels, for example; and 2. The multi-trillion dollar Debt accumulating hour by hour for our totally needless Oil Wars ongoing in the middle east, debt, you will have to pay off. Needless wars? YOU have 8 times as much wind, and 200 times as much sun in this country as you need for the entire economy, WITH TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY, AND IT IS CHEAPER, AND IT PROVIDES ABOUT 8 TIMES THE JOBS AS DOES FOSSIL FUELS. You are getting screwed, SCREWED, and so far, you are too stupid, to distracted with your self-righteous playing, ranting, self-indulgent experimenting… to do anything about it.
And soon, there will be nothing you can do about it. NOTHING. FOREVER, that is, unless 98% percent of the scientists qualified to weigh in on the matter are all lying to you, along with NASA, Lawrence Livermore Labs, the Pentagon, MIT, Cambridge, Stanford, Cornell...............
But today, you can head off 80-90% of this environmental armageddon that otherwise is an eternally irreparable certainty for you. You need to do what was done when finally, folks like you got off their asses, and said 'ENOUGH' to the cigarette cancer deniers. KEEP SMOKING if you want, they said, but YOU ARE GOING TO PAY YOUR HEALTH COSTS, NOT US, WE DON'T SMOKE. You need to do the same thing, get off your asses and tell the fossil fuel denier industry, ENOUGH! Burn your coal and oil if you want, but YOU, NOT WE, ARE GOING TO PAY THE WRECKAGE COSTS, THE WAR COSTS. THAT'S IT. THAT'S ALL YOU'VE GOT TO DO. And anything else, anything less, and you're screwed, and your kids are screwed, forever. Uh, FOREVER. Period.

Fee and 100% dividend to every US citizen of record, every month. $10 per ton of carbon fee, increasing $10 per year, collected on carbon fuels at the mine, well or port, distributed to citizens of record 100% as a dividend every month. NO CAP AND TRADE. NO TAX. Fee, and Dividend. The market will do the rest. You want to drive an SUV? Live it up. Waste your dividend endlessly, needlessly at the pump. Don't want to waste your dividend endlessly? Use it to get a plug-in hybrid, to get a few solar panels, for geo-thermal heating/cooling for your house. YOU DECIDE. BUT IF YOU AIN'T DOING THE WRECKAGE, YOU AIN'T GUNNA PAY FOR IT ANY MORE. THAT'S UN-AMERICAN. THAT'S STUPID. STOP BEING CRIMINALLY STUPID.
If any of you in Occupy get tired of playing activist, get serious about your future, please, PLEASE, let me know. Joan Walsh over at Salon has a terrific deep dive on what Kennedy actually said, which is the opposite of Santorum’s characterization. “Of course, there’s no place in Kennedy’s speech where he said ‘people of faith are not allowed in the public square,’ or anything close to that, and Santorum’s saying it three times doesn’t make it true.” Courtesy of Walsh, here is what Kennedy said:
Joan Walsh over at Salon has a terrific deep dive on what Kennedy actually said, which is the opposite of Santorum’s characterization. “Of course, there’s no place in Kennedy’s speech where he said ‘people of faith are not allowed in the public square,’ or anything close to that, and Santorum’s saying it three times doesn’t make it true.” Courtesy of Walsh, here is what Kennedy said:
I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute, where no Catholic prelate would tell the president (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote; where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference; and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the president who might appoint him or the people who might elect him.
I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish; where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source; where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials; and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all.
For while this year it may be a Catholic against whom the finger of suspicion is pointed, in other years it has been, and may someday be again, a Jew— or a Quaker or a Unitarian or a Baptist. It was Virginia’s harassment of Baptist preachers, for example, that helped lead to Jefferson’s statute of religious freedom. Today I may be the victim, but tomorrow it may be you — until the whole fabric of our harmonious society is ripped at a time of great national peril.
