It's hard to find the path - the right is so committed to trampling justice, and the left, pathologically frightened of any personal responsibility. So like you, I fell into the seductive, but ridiculous trap you find yourself in, knee-jerk denial of the true threats here, and not facing the shades-of-gray, non-dogmatic path that sanity, courage and humanity demand.
The True threat is Not Pr. Obama. The True threats are right-wing-nut Israel and a fundamentalist, fanatical Religio-nut leadership in Iran. Either or both will, WILL bring an end to all life on earth if in their fanaticism that satisfies their egos.
Pr. Obama clearly sees the suicidal, genocidal insanity in both Israel and Iran. The only way to avoid otherwise certain war, which you don't want, neither do I, is if Pr. Obama can get Iran to be fully and completely open to IAEA inspectors. Why wouldn't Iran do that? Principal? Really? Iran is otherwise sane, moral, well intended... but on principal they won't let an international body verity their stated peaceful intentions? Really? Uh, no.
You need to find the moral courage to back Pr. Obama in his from-day-one strategy to PROTECT AND LEGITIMIZE Iran's pursuit of Peaceful Nuclear Power. Unless Iran takes his opening, with the help and encouragement of folks like you, and fully and reasonably allows the IAEA to assert that no bomb efforts are conceivably underway, ISRAEL, WILL, WILL, WILL... bomb Iran.
